Signature Products Group (SPG), a critical middleman that brings technical outdoor and action sports brands into broader retail categories, is replacing its legacy infrastructure with PTC’s FlexPLM cloud platform.

The move directly responds to the “speed-to-market” pressures currently hitting the sporting goods sector. As SPG’s portfolio of licensed brands grew, its old on-premise system – bogged down by years of custom coding – created data logjams that delayed product launches and complicated coordination with global brand partners.

How SPG connects brands with new product categories

For major sports brands, SPG acts as a strategic bridge. They take a brand’s DNA and translate it into new lifestyle or accessory categories – handling everything from design and manufacturing to final distribution.

By adopting cloud-native PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), SPG can now manage the strict brand guidelines and complex seasonal calendars of multiple heavy hitters simultaneously. The infrastructure upgrade benefits a diverse portfolio of sporting goods and outdoor clients, spanning action sports brands like Hurley and Fox Racing, outdoor and hunting specialists including Browning, Realtree, and Ducks Unlimited, as well as performance apparel names such as Huk (performance fishing) and Carhartt.

Three reasons this matters for retail operations

Speed & Accuracy: The cloud transition enables real-time collaboration between designers and manufacturers, cutting down on physical sampling and improving first-sample approval rates – crucial for maintaining margins in wholesale.

AI Readiness: While not yet deploying AI, the move creates the “data foundation” required for future AI-driven demand forecasting and inventory optimisation, as highlighted in the 2026 SGI Editorial Guidance.

Portfolio Scalability: “At SPG, we needed a solution to help us work faster and more accurately,” says Joe Boud, COO. The new system allows SPG to plug in new brand partners without the technical friction that previously slowed down category expansion.
