Pádel, it appears, continues to thrive. At the freshly concluded ISPO Munich 2022 the Clúster Internacional del Pádel (CIP) reported that pádel-racquet sales increased by nearly 72 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, according to Diffusion Sport. This was, however, down from the more than 85 percent rise of the first quarter. The year-on-year annual rise was of 77 percent for 2021 and about 54 percent for 2020.

There has been at least one recent indication, reported in September, of a slowing market. It came from Rafael Tarradas, CEO of Royal Padel, who told CMDsport that the European pádel market had ground to halt, because excessive orders during the lockdown recovery had glutted inventories.

The CIP, for context, comprises 125 brands owned by 80 companies in 22 countries, among them 27 court builders and 33 racquet manufacturers. Their aggregate annual revenues amount to some €900 million.

Mireia Álvarez, who spoke for the CIP at ISPO Munich, pegged pádel’s overall growth at 38.78 percent in 2020 and 43 percent in 2021, attributing the rise to new players. The top markets after Spain are Italy, France, Belgium and Sweden.
