USA Pickleball, the sport’s governing body in the U.S., has published its annual growth report for 2022.
The body’s membership rose by 29.4 percent, from 53,110 to about 68,697. North American pickleball courts in its Places2Play database rose from 9,167 to 10,724; a growth rate of about 130 per month. USA Pickleball’s count of known pickleball courts is 44,094.
USA Pickleball sanctioned 237 tournaments, up from 153 in 2021. Among these were the Indoor National Championships, the National Championships and the first Diamond Amateur Championship. A match at the National Championships, on Nov. 13, drew the sport’s largest in-person crowd yet: 5,522.
