A merger in the winter sports retail sector has resulted in the formation of the USA’s largest network of specialty retailers, marking a significant milestone for snowsports enthusiasts across the country.
Winter Sports Retailers Inc. (WSR), born out of the consolidation of Ski Specialty Limited (SSL) and Snowsports Merchandising Corporation (SMC), boasts an impressive network of 118 shops and over 300 locations spanning 33 states. This strategic union promises enhanced collaboration, expanded reach, and shared resources among retailers and brands, ultimately enriching the overall snowsports experience.
Gary Fleming, president of Winter Sports Retailers Inc., highlighted the significance of the merger, stating: “Since the 1970s, both SSL and SMC have played pivotal roles in shaping the industry landscape.” He emphasized the organization’s commitment to leveraging its extensive network to benefit consumers and propel the snow sports industry forward.
Headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts, with an additional office in Golden, Colorado, WSR is strategically positioned to serve its members nationwide. The organization is bolstering its capabilities by hiring a sales and marketing operator to optimize coordination and support for various campaigns.
In addition to its retail operations, WSR will continue to host the Winter Sports Market (WSM), a trade show in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fleming expressed enthusiasm for WSM’s future, citing the show’s recent success as a promising sign of continued growth and prosperity for the winter sports industry.
