Messe Friedrichshafen is asking local authorities to help it finance a 16,500-square-meter expansion of its new 4-year-old fairgrounds, adding two new halls to help accommodate a growing number of companies that want to exhibit at its Eurobike, Fakuma and OutDoor fairs. Meanwhile Messe Friedrichshafen is proposing to hold a new bicycle show in the USA, as it did in Europe when it launched Eurobike during the mountain bike boom in competition with IFMA in Cologne. The new show, which still doesn’t have a name, would be held next September in Portland, Oregon, accompanied by demonstration days in a nearby resort. It would thus run into direct competition with the 25-year-old Interbike show, which welcomed 22,000 trade visitors last Sept. 27-29 in Las Vegas. Eurobike has reported 31,810 trade visitors, but that was based on daily passages through the turnstiles. Interbike and Eurobike had 735 and 826 exhibitors, respectively.
