Michael Marckx has resigned as chief executive of Spy Inc., the California-based brand of action sports-inspired sunglasses, following the release of poor sales and profits figures for the first half of this year. He is also leaving the company's board of directors but will continue as a consultant until Dec. 15. Seth Hamot, chairman, will act as interim CEO until the nomination of his successor. Marckx has a long history in the action sports industry. He worked as international marketing and creative director for Ocean Pacific from 2001 to 2004. He then served as global marketing director of Globe International until the beginning of 2011, when he became vice president of marketing at Spy. He was promoted president and CEO soon after. Under his management, Spy dropped its licensing deal with O'Neill to concentrate on the Spy brand and took other initiatives that allowed the company to improve its results.
