A few days ago, Elements, the chain of high-end fitness gyms owned by the Zurich section of the Swiss Migros retail cooperative, opened its first studio in the heart of Munich. This health, wellness and fitness center and other gyms that will be set up by Elements in Germany are handled by a newly created company, Migros Freizeit Deutschland. The location in Munich has a surface of 2,700 square meters.

There are already precise plans for more studios in Germany: Another one in Munich will be opened in spring 2013 on 5,000 square meters. Three more gyms are under construction, again in Munich as well as in Frankfurt and Stuttgart. They are set to open between autumn 2013 and 2014. This first stage of Elements' expansion into Germany will create some 400 jobs.

In the long run, Migros wants to cover the whole country with 50 studios in the major cities to become market leader for premium fitness gyms in Germany. In Switzerland, Elements currently runs 52 fitness and wellness centers as well as four multi-sport venues and eight golf courses.
