Mizuno is attempting to make further inroads into the lucrative handball market. The company has signed a contract to provide team jerseys and other gear to the women's team of Frisch Auf Göppingen, which plays in the first division of the German Handball League, ahead of the season opening in September. The team, known as Frisch auf Frauen, will be the first one in Germany to use jerseys made by the Japanese company. Mizuno first made a push into the market in 2011 with handball shoes that quickly became well accepted. The shoes are worn by many players in the German League, including Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson whose Rhein-Neckar Löwen team won the 2017 championship.
