More than 10,000 people on every continent have signed up to play squash in a single event on Saturday, Oct. 20. This year's World Squash Day will be staged in support of a new bid by the World Squash Federation to get the sport included in the agenda of the 2020 Olympic Games. The decision will be made by the International Olympic Committee in Buenos Aires next year. According to the latest data, squash is played by over 20 million people in 175 countries. It has been described as one of the 10 healthiest sports. Squash clubs in the U.S. and the U.K. staged the first World Squash Day on Jan. 11, 2002, in honor of Derek Sword, a former Scottish junior player who moved to New York and was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
