MTS, the big German manufacturer and distributor of indoor and racquet sports products, has acquired the Beachminton brand from a company outside the core sporting-goods business. Under this label, it will market sets of badminton racquets and balls which, MTS claims, are by far more wind-resistant than traditional gear, making it easier to play the game on the beach. Beachminton should not be confused with Speedminton, a Berlin-based company, whose product range is equally distributed by MTS. Speedminton is a game that makes use of badminton balls and squash racquets for a quite powerful, but mostly fun-driven way of playing badminton. For the time being, the new line of Beachminton products will be co-branded with MTS' own brand, Talbot Torro, to give consumers and retailers an image of the quality that the company stands for. MTS has its own factories in the Far East and markets the brands Talbot Torro (badminton), Schildkröt-Donic (table tennis) and Unsquashable (squash). Additionally, it distributes Tecnifibre, the French brand of strings and maintenance for tennis equipment. MTS' sales force also sells the indoor footwear line of Hi-Tec.
