Musto is setting up its own subsidiary for the Italian market, where it has been generating annual sales of more than €2 million through a long-time distributor, Franco Pivoli. The operation will start in Milan next January under the management of Pivoli himself. The 62-year-old entrepreneur will keep his distribution company, however, which will continue to sell other product ranges for sailing such as those of Baltic, Deep Blue, Blue Fox and JDC. Musto, which already has subsidiaries in France and Spain, is particularly bullish about the Italian market following the appointment of a new designer, Joe Becker, who previously worked for Hackett London. His autumn/winter 2011/12 collection, which will be shown at Pitti Uomo in Florence next month, will have new fitting casual garments that should be better suited for the market.
