New Balance has opened a pub for marathon runners, called The Runaway, on Charing Cross Road, not far from London's Leicester Square. The pub was opened in partnership with Strava, the San Francisco-based fitness app and social network, and is part of “Everybody's Race,” a marketing campaign by the American brand of sports shoes. Everybody's Race is documenting the training of five runners as they prepare for this year's London Marathon. In a similar vein, the Runaway offers not just the traditional full bar and darts but also a weight room and lockers. Its marathoner patrons are encouraged to log their miles and trade them for pints. This year's London Marathon is scheduled for April 28 and sponsored by Virgin Money, the Virgin Group's banking company. More than 40,000 people will be running the race.
