New Balance is looking to expand its headquarters in Brighton, Massachusetts, but the space it is eyeing is being fought for by Lowe’s, the American home improvement chain. Lowe’s signed a deal with the property owner in 2007 but has been unable to get approval from the city, faced with opposition from area residents who worry about traffic. New Balance plans to file its own development plan for the land with the city next week. The property owner, David Langer, told The Boston Globe that his agreement with Lowe’s is intact and he expects the chain to get the property. He has about 10 acres available; Lowe’s would take up 8 acres, and Langer is trying to interest New Balance in the remaining 2 acres.
