New Era has partnered with Repreve, a Unifi brand, on its first-ever team-licensed NBA cap made of recycled plastic bottles. The cap features exclusively the Portland Trail Blazers, commonly known as the blazers, the NBA team based in Portland, Oregon. Each hat is said to be made using four recycled plastic bottles. Unifi offers enhanced transparency on the environmental sustainability of the products made with Repreve through its proprietary U Trust verification program, a third-party certification program. As part of this program, Unifi uses Fiberprint technology, a tool that allows Unifi to certify the level of Repreve content. The Repreve-based caps debuted at Rip City Clothing Company at the Moda Center, home of the Trail Blazers, during the team's games on April 6 and April 8, and will retail for $30. Prior to the launch, Unifi promoted the new cap via the national Repreve #TurnItGreen mobile tour, an interactive trailer that traveled across the U.S. to educate the public about the importance of recycling while showcasing Repreve-based products that can be made thanks to the plastic bottles recycled by sports fans.
