Nike, along with Arsene Wenger, the manager of Arsenal F.C., has launched this year’s global search for football players called “The Chance.” The program gives players who don’t have contracts and aren’t affiliated with professional clubs the chance to win a spot at the Nike Academy, a high-performance training club supported by England’s Premier League. Players should register at, where they create a sort of a digital portfolio to get people’s attention. They then compete in Nike Elite Training events and the Nike City Cup. One hundred players from around the world will be invited to England to compete for one of the eight slots in the academy. All expenses will be paid for them to live in the U.K. for a year, starting in July 2011.
