Nike, H&M, Burberry and Gap signed up to an initiative that aims to improve the industry's record of sustainability after a study found that less than one percent of the clothing is recycled. The four brands joined the Make Fashion Circular program to reduce global waste from fashion by recycling raw materials and products, which was set up by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. The first to sign up to the initiative was the British designer, Stella McCartney. In a report published in November, the foundation revealed that half a million tons of plastic microfibers are released from washing clothing annually, equivalent to more than 50 billion plastic bottles.
