Nike has been honored with the “outstanding commercial” award at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for its “Dream Crazy” campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick, the former quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. It is Nike's first “outstanding commercial” Emmy in 17 years for an ad. The commercial was released in September 2018. Kaepernick famously decided to kneel during the U.S. national anthem at an NFL preseason game in 2016, to protest racism and racial injustice. He has been out of the NFL since the end of the 2016 season.
