Nike has decided to extend its contract with Tiger Woods after its expiration at the end of this year, according to ESPN. The Swoosh started partnering with the American golf champion in 2006, when he became a golf professional. It decided to stick with him recently in spite of the bad publicity endured at the end of 2009 from Woods' extramarital affairs, his subsequent divorce and his temporary absence from the greens. No figures have been disclosed, but Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, has been quoted as saying that the new contract will make him “comfortably” the brand's highest paid endorser in golf. This would indicate that Woods is going to get more than Rory McIlroy, who is said to be earning between $15 and $20 million a year from Nike. It would also indicate that the two players cost Nike Golf around five percent of its revenues, which reached $791 million in the past year – a ratio similar to Callaway Golf's total sports marketing expenses.
