Nike has signed a two-year licensing deal to use some of New York City's logos on its merchandise. The logos in question include the New York Police Department's badge, the Fire Department's insignia, the taxi “T”, the Staten Island Ferry's logo, the leaf of the Parks Department and the bomb squad's logo. Negotiated with New York's Franchise and Concession Review Committee, the deal will set aside for payment to NYC & Company, the city's tourism bureau, the greater of two sums: either five percent of Nike's profits from the merchandise or $20,000. In addition, for marketing and giveaways, NYC & Company will receive an unspecified amount of Nike's New York-branded merchandise. Nike got the idea for this deal from a previous deal between the sportswear giant and the city's Parks Department.
