Nike is introducing a new sole meant to be used by amputee athletes. The Nike Sole was designed in conjunction with Össur, an orthopedics company known for its prosthetic innovations, and Sarah Reinertsen, the amputee triathlete and world record holder. The sole works with Össur's Flex-Run prosthetic blade. Nike built on its Free 5.0 Trail outsole, tweaking it according to feedback from Reinertsen. Lightwear and durable, the Nike Sole has layered the outsole, midsole and Aeroply thermal plastic urethane. Plastic tabs “grab” the Flex-Run carbon fiber blade for easy on-easy off wear.
