Nike, Oakley and other sponsors have withdrawn their association with Oscar Pistorius, the South African paralympic champion, pending the results of a judicial investigation into the murder of his girl friend, Reeva Steenkamp. An ad for Nike has been pulled out from Pistorius' own website, quoting the 26-year-old champion as saying: “I am the bullet in the chamber.” Last Feb. 14, Steenkamp was shot four times through a bathroom wall. A court in South African court relased the lame champion from jail on bail after his lawyer said that his client thought there that had been an intruder in the toilet. Pistorius has been making an estimated $4.7 million a year from endorsements. He is the latest in a series of Swoosh-sponsored athletes who have run afoul of the law or public opinion, including Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Michael Vick and Lance Amstrong.
