Northern Tool+Equipment, a mail-order and brick-and-mortar retailer based in Minnesota and owned by the Kotula family with some 80 stores, is raising its total annual sales to nearly $1.5 billion with the acquisition of The Sportsman's Guide and The Golf Warehouse. These two operations belong to Redcats USA, the American company controlled by the French PPR group, which is also majority shareholder of Puma. The purchase price is $215 million including assumption of debt. While The Sportsman's Guide runs a catalog and internet retail business embracing a large variety of outdoor, boating and recreational products as well as workwear, The Golf Warehouse is a Canadian internet retailer specialized in golf equipment. Both banners are expected to be managed independently under the new ownership, while sharing the back office with Northern Tool. The deal still needs approval of various authorities but should be completed by the end of the year.
