Sales of some sporting goods jumped in Kazakhstan during the past few months, which was likely associated with the Tokyo Olympics. Market research conducted by Delovoy Kazakhstan showed that the demand jumped in every segment where Kazakh athletes were competing. This year Kazakhstan for the first time performed in rock climbing and karate, and almost immediately with the start of the Olympics the consumption of climbing equipment increased by a factor of 2.3 times, while sales of kimonos and other karate products tripled. Similarly, the fact that Kazakh athletes competed in water polo for the first time after an 8-year break caused a twofold rise in sales for almost all types of water sports products in the country. Aside from other factors, Kazakhstan experienced a 50 percent rise in sales of bicycles as the national team participated in the Olympic cycle races for the first time since 2004.
