On April 20, Mammut Sports Group (MSG) opened its first franchised store in Kempten operated by a local retailer, Bergsport Maxi. Kempten is a medium-sized town close to the Alps in the Southwest of Bavaria. The downtown store will present on a net surface of 150 sqm the range of the brands Mammut, Raichle and Toko. The Kempten opening is the second one in Europe after an ill-fated one in Prague. The Czech store, run by a local retailer, opened last summer and closed a few weeks ago. Beside the Bavarian franchise store, Mammut runs two corporate stores in the USA through its wholly owned subsidiary there. These stores are a heritage of Climb High, a wholesale dealer specialized in importing European outdoor brands that Mammut acquired in 2001. The Kempten store means a step back to the company’s roots because it was right there, in 1987, where Mammut founded its German subsidiary through the acquisition of the local rope company Elite.
