On Jan. 14 in Jaun, Switzerland, a skier was found under three feet of snow and pulled out alive thanks to an avalanche dog and the Recco Rescue System. The 22-year-old was skiing off-piste with two others despite a warning of three out of five on the European Avalanche Danger Scale. None was carrying a transceiver, shovel or probe. Rega, the Swiss air-rescue squad, responded to a witness's emergency phone call. Fortunately for him, the rescued skier was wearing an Arc'teryx jacket with an integrated Recco rescue reflector.
