On Nov. 15, Decathlon moved into the Potrero Center mall, on the corner of 16th Street and Bryant Street in San Francisco. The new 38,370-square-foot store is the French retailer's third one in San Francisco's Bay Area and is highly digitalized, with a mobile checkout, endless-aisle kiosks, a robot to handle inventories and RFID tags. It also has product testing zones and a community area. To support the launch, Decathlon has signed an as yet unspecified deal with the San Francisco Giants, one of the teams affiliated with Major League Baseball. Fittingly, the Potrero Center stands on the site of the Seals Stadium, the Giants' first home when they moved to San Francisco from New York in 1958. The team is among the oldest in professional baseball, dating back to the 19th century. A plaque at the store commemorates the former location of the Seals Stadium's home plate.
