One of the major sporting goods retailers in Brazil, Grupo Paquetá, plans to raise the number of its sporting goods stores, called Paquetá Esportes, from 35 to 50 by the end of 2014. Coinciding with the football World Cup, which will be held in Brazil next year, the program includes the opening of a first series of six stores in the state of São Paulo. For the moment, the sporting goods stores of the chain are located only in the states of Rio Grande do Sur, Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia, in addition to the federal district of Brasilia. Widely described in our report on the Brazilian sporting goods market, Paquetá is also a major OEM manufacturer of sports shoes for Adidas and other brands, besides other operations.
