Our previous report (SGI Europe, Vol. 23, No. 44+45) on rumors that Rory McIlroy, the pro golfer, was going to sign a sponsorship deal with Nike has been realized. With the deal for £156 million (€195.1m-$248.0m), McIlroy becomes the second-highest-paid British athlete after David Beckham. McIlroy, from Northern Ireland, will officially become a Nike athlete as of Jan. 1, but U.S. media are reporting that he has already filmed ad spots with fellow Nike pro Tiger Woods. He will be switching clubs for the first time in his career, from his previous sponsor Titleist. McIlroy's other sponsors include Jumeirah, Oakley, Santander bank and Audemars Piguet.
