Paris will ban cars for a day as an experiment in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The Journée Sans Voitures (Day Without Cars) will be Sunday, Sept. 27, from 11am to 6pm. Cars will be banned from a substantial area that includes the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, 10th and 11th arrondissements and landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Élysées and Place de la Bastille. The Bois de Vincennes and Bois de Boulogne, two major parks, will also be part of the restricted area. Exceptions will be made for emergency vehicles only, while tourists and commuters will have to walk, cycle or use the Paris métro. The French capital city will host the next United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP21, later this year, from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
