Patagonia has released a new handbook for environmental activists across the globe entitled “Tools for Grassroots Activists: Best Practices for Success in the Environmental Movement.”
The book, co-authored by the company's founder and owner, Yvon Chouinard, is a collection of tips and essays from its biennial Tools Conference, with contributions from presenters such as Bill McKibbon, Jane Goodall, Wade Davis, Annie Leonard and Terry Tempest Williams. These recognized activists offer advice and best practices for grassroots advocacy, fundraising, marketing and communications, campaign strategy and social media, among other critical areas.
The book, packaged with several full-color photos, features hands-on case-studies, including how the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign stopped the construction of coal-fired power plants, and others.
In 2015, Patagonia identified 741 local grassroots environmental groups in 18 countries, and gave $6.2 million in cash to safeguard rivers and forests, protect endangered wildlife and habitat, promote sustainable agriculture, prevent extreme resource extraction, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
