Pentland Brands, the British family-owned business behind Speedo, Berghaus and other brands, has acquired Endura, another family-owned company based in Scotland. Endura is a cycling apparel brand and the clothing partner of the Movistar Team, among others. The brand is worn by road, mountain bike and triathlon teams and riders.
In the year to April 2017, Endura generated sales of £25 milliion (€28.6m-$35.3m), making a £1.6 million (€1.8m-$2.3m) pre-tax profit.
Endura makes its own products in Scotland. Its annoncement of the takeover suggested that Pentland may get some of its other brands made in Scotland in the future.
The acquisition is part of Pentland's program to expand its brands portfolio, looking at high-potential and high-growth brands with a view for long-term prospects. An example of that is its recent minority investment in Tracksmith, the brand of performance running apparel made in the U.S., which is based in Boston.
Endura was established in Scotland in 1993. The company is headquartered in Livingston, where it will reportedly continue to be based. Its founders and directors, Jim McFarlane and Pamela Barclay, will continue to lead and manage day-to-day operations.
The brand supports a wide range of world-class teams and athletes including Movistar Team, Movistar Women's Team, Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team on road, Danny MacAskill, Tim Don, and Lucy Charles.
