The UK-based fitness company Gymshark has announced that Chris Bumstead, one of the biggest names in bodybuilding worldwide, has both rejoined its athlete roster and taken part ownership of the brand. The signing follows the launch of its brand platform We Do Gym, which reintroduced Gymshark as the special brand for the gym, and sees the two parties reunited after a three-year hiatus.
“A few months ago, we told the world that we are the gym brand and We Do Gym,” said Noel Mack, Chief Brand Officer, Gymshark. “You can’t make a claim like that, and not be represented by the most iconic gym-goer in the world. CBum is an inspiration to us and to our community and we know how much this signing will mean to them. That’s why we’re beyond excited to welcome Chris to Gymshark, as both an athlete and a part-owner.”
Gymshark today says the company reaches over 10 million customers from over 230 countries with Gymshark´s 14 online stores. The company is growing and has over 900 employees across offices in five regions. In the year ending July 2023, Gymshark reported a 15 percent increase in revenue sales to £556.2 million (€658.8m).
Recently Gymshark hired another key person when a new CPO joined the company.
SGI Europe got a hold of Gymsark’s Head of Communications, Sam Kane, to ask a few questions.
Why is Chris coming back after 3 years?
We stuck a stake in the ground recently to tell everyone that WE DO GYM. It told everyone that we are obsessed with the gym and that we are a gym brand, not a sports brand or an athleisure brand. If we make this claim, it makes total sense to have the biggest name in gym culture back with us. It was a no-brainer for both of us.
What will be Chris’ assignments when coming back?
Chris will assume regular Gymshark athlete responsibilities. Being a proud ambassador for our brand and our message. But he will also have a hand in our brand strategy and positioning, plus some top secret projects we can’t talk about just yet.
What is Gymshark’s most important business things right now, like open more stores or expanding outside UK?
Our mission remains the same. We create clothing content and communities to help people realize how strong they can become. Chris is just another part of that, and our recent expansion into new channels and territories is also a tool to achieve that mission.
