Newton Golf Company has expanded its board of directors with an appointment that blends public-company financial oversight with direct experience running golf properties – a combination the Nasdaq-listed equipment brand says it needs as it presses ahead with product line and international expansion.

John Bode joins as the fifth board member, bringing the independent director count to three. In a statement released Feb. 17, the company said the move follows what it described as a record revenue performance in 2025.

Bode currently serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Transformation Officer at Postmedia Network Canada Corp., where he oversees finance operations and enterprise-wide transformation initiatives. He also sits on the boards of Stewards, a diversified private credit and digital finance platform, The McClatchy Company, a privately held newspaper publisher, and SPAR Group.

A CFO with skin in the game

Beyond the boardroom credentials, Bode brings operational knowledge of the golf industry that few finance executives can match. He is founder and partner of Maxim Golf Solutions, a management and consulting firm for golf courses and recreational properties, and holds majority ownership of three US golf clubs.

Bode’s earlier corporate roles included Chief Operating Officer at ReaderLink Distribution Services and CFO at Tribune Publishing Company, where he was involved in financial restructuring and operational optimization. He previously served as CFO of Source Interlink Companies, at the time one of the largest enthusiast media companies in the US and a major periodical distributor.
