Luciano Buonfiglio takes over from Giovanni Malagò as President of CONI.

Luciano Buonfiglio has been elected the new President of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) for the four-year period 2025-2028. Buonfiglio obtained 47 preferences. For Luca Pancalli, the President of the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP), the votes were 34.

Buonfiglio succeeds Giovanni Malagò, who had served as President of CONI since 2013 for three consecutive terms. Malagò is also an IOC Member and the President of the Milano-Cortina 2026 organizing committee, a role he is expected to maintain. From 2013 to 2018, Buonfiglio served as Vice President of CONI during Malagò’s first term.

A former canoeist, Buonfiglio has been the head of the Italian Canoeing and Kayaking Federation (FICK) since 2005. Following his election to the CONI presidency, he will leave that role.
