Polartec and Kometa, an Italian food firm, will be co-sponsoring the new cycling development team launched by the Alberto Contador Foundation and the team Trek-Segafredo. The new development squad will compete in the Continental division. The two sponsors have signed a three-year commitment. Ivan Basso, a former teammate of Contador's, will be the sport manager of the project while Francisco Contador, Alberto's brother, will be in charge of the administrative management. Alberto Contador founded the eponymous foundation in 2012. The mission of the Alberto Contador Foundation includes the promotion of the use of bicycle and cycling in general and the fight against strokes. The new cycling development team will aim to offer young people, from both the Contador Foundation and other international schools, an opportunity for professional training. The team will rely on the experience of Contador's foundation in managing junior cyclists and preparing them for the transition to professional cycling. The sponsors of the new development team, Polartec and Kometa, also support Contador's foundation. The team will be based in Pinto, near Madrid, at the foundation's headquarters, and various training camps will be held in Bormio, in Italy's Valtellina area. The team will use Trek's bicycles and technical support.
