Polygiene is launching a new formula of its ViralOff antiviral treatment with a guarantee for what it calls a “lifetime” of washes. The actual number of washes covered is 30. According to the company, which tested the product against the ISO18184:2019 standard, the new formula will rid a fabric of more than 99 percent of its SARS-CoV-2 contamination within two hours. According to Polygiene, “a number of partners” are adopting the formula, which should be generating high sales volumes by January. “As the pandemic has evolved,” says Polygiene’s chief executive, Ulrika Björk, there seems to be a consensus that “antimicrobial materials will be the ‘new normal’ […] regardless of the number of vaccines that are being developed.” Polygiene maintains that “fewer washes are always a good thing” but that products that need washing should “keep their effectiveness.”
