Aetrex is releasing a 3D foot scanner with two selling points: size and cost. Using a proprietary computer system called FitGenius, the Albert 3DFit will complete a foot scan in “less than 10 seconds” and is accurate to within one millimeter, the company claims. The system then compares the scanned foot profile to the available shoes and makes recommendations on size and style through a retailer’s existing digital shopping platform. FitGenius comes with a plug-in that “allows retailers to easily integrate the shoe recommendation software into their website or across their email blasts and social media.” It also collects data for use in marketing, product development and management of store performance. The first units will be operational for autumn 2021. The price is $1,995 or $55.42 per month. Aetrex claims to have set up more than 10,000 foot scanners and generated some 40 million scans since 2002. It will be launching a mobile app for home scanning later this year. Based in New Jersey, the 70-year-old company has facilities in the U.S., Israel and China. Its brand partners include New Balance, Red Wing, Merrell and Rockport, among many others.
