Puma and Porsche Design have entered into a strategic partnership on a new line of high-end sportswear, footwear and accessories, starting in the spring/summer 2019 season. The Porsche Design Sportswear Collection will be available in early March.
The collection has been described as combining the respective philosophies of the two brands. “Their active lifestyle heritage fits perfectly to our ambition to bring the track to the street and merge sport innovation with lifestyle products. With our long experience in motorsport, we will be working with Porsche Design to innovate footwear and apparel styles of high quality and technical engineering,” said Bjørn Gulden, Puma's chief executive. Porsche Design brings its engineering approach, distinctive design philosophy and expertise in the premium segment, while Puma brings its expertise in sportswear, which will be seen in advanced cushioning systems, seam-sealing knits and lightweight fabrics, the company said in a press release. The collection will range from active wear to sporty lifestyle wear, to meet the needs and tastes of the contemporary urban consumer.
Puma is rooted in the world of motorsports. In mid-January, the German brand announced a new partnership with Lewis Hamilton on the launch of the all-new Puma Jaab XT silhouette. The new deal follows its previous collaboration with the five-time Formula 1 World Champion on the launch of the Puma Mantra Fusefit trainer, in June 2018. Puma has also recently signed a long-term agreement with Porsche Motorsport to become the exclusive technical partner for fireproof racing clothing as well as shoes, caps and luggage. The Puma logo will also be featured on all Porsche race cars and all racing clothing.
