Puma and the Borussia Mönchengladbach football team in Germany had to abruptly interrupt sales of the Bundesliga team's replica jerseys shortly after their launch earlier this month, due to an issue with the material in some of the products. Puma said it would provide new shirts to restart sales as soon as possible, and organize swaps for customers who bought the initial batch. The company already had to deal with such an issue at the European football championships two years ago, when the shirts of several players in the Swiss team were torn apart. The technical issue with Borussia Mönchengladbach shirts was untimely since the launch of the replicas marked the start of a renewed partnership between the supplier and the Bundesliga team, which was one of Puma's most prominent partners from 1976 to 1992. The club had to alert supporters on social media about the issue relating to home and away shirts as well as shorts. Puma declined to say where the Borussia shirts were made.
