Puma has launched a programmable, self-driving and line-following robot to stimulate runners by giving them a moving target to beat, instead of just a stopwatch. Developed in partnership with MIT engineering graduates, the Beatbot is meant to help runners improve their performance in real time. They can enter the time and distance of the race they want to replicate, then place the unit on the starting line and go. With a top speed of 44 km per hour, the Beatbot can even replicate Usain Bolt's record-breaking 100 meters dash. The Beatbot works with nine infrared sensors and is fitted with bright LED lights to make sure it's always in the runner's peripheral vision. Front and rear Go Pro cameras also let runners review their run after the race. The Beatbot is currently exclusive to Puma athletes and will be rolled out to various athletic programs around the world over the year.
