Puma has released a statement related to its ongoing legal battle with K-Swiss over Puma’s Formstrip. K-Swiss had filed a petition to delete the trademark Formstrip, saying the application was deficient. K-Swiss said that Puma’s North American subsidiary was a co-owner of the Formstrip when Puma registered the trademark, and Puma should have informed the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office about this when applying. Puma says, however, that Puma owns the trademark, and Puma North America is the licensee – not a co-owner of the Formstrip. Puma also wanted to clarify that the Formstrip is a trademark, not a patent, as some medias have referred to it.
