Puma has signed a multiyear deal to become an official partner of the NBA. As a result, the company many now produce marketing materials that show its sponsored athletes in their NBA uniforms and with team logos. Puma got back into basketball last year (see SGI Europe Vol. 29 n°21+22 of July 3, 2018), signing endorsement deals with the rookie players Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III, Michael Porter Jr. and Zhaire Smith. In January, the company put out a basketball shoe called the Clyde Court #Reform, which symbolizes criminal justice reform (see SGI Europe Vol. 30 n°3+4 of Jan. 28, 2019). This month, moreover, the brand is releasing the Uproar, a shoe whose colorways take inspiration from the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, site of the 2019 NBA All-Star Game. Puma also expects to roll out new iterations of two other basketball shoes later this year.
