Re:newcell has announced the development of a new technology which allows cotton waste to be recycled into new textile pulp. The dissolved pulp is mainly used to make textile materials such as Viscose or Lyocel. Up until this breakthrough, it was not possible to recycle cotton into textile material suitable for use in the fashion industry. The Swedish company, which has been working on the new technology since 2012, said it will build a factory at the AkzoNobel facility in Kristinehamn in order to start the initial production line. The company believes that its recycling process of cellulosic-based textile fibers will allow for the use of resources to be prolonged.
