Reusch International AG in Bolzano, Italy, will take over the distribution of the Speedo swimwear brand in Austria and Italy from the Oberalp Group, also based in Bolzano, as of Jan. 1, 2023. Reusch also distributes Deuter in Italy. The collaboration is another important milestone for the Italian glove specialist, which is still considered a key player in the sporting goods industry after a strategic reorganization over the last decade. The Austrian and Italian Speedo business will be managed mainly by the existing team of Reusch sales reps, reinforced in some regions by professionals with specific experience in the swimming segment. Laura Rovaris will be the project manager at the Reusch headquarters in Bolzano.
Erich Weitzmann, CEO of Reusch, commented: “Even before we became shareholders and then owners of the Reusch brand, my family could look back on a long and traditional history in the distribution of well-known sports brands in Italy, founded in 1950. We consider it a sign of appreciation for all that we have done in recent years to have now been appointed as the official distributor of the world’s leading swimming brand. Our company will provide all the necessary resources, focus and energy to make this partnership a success and a win-win for both companies and all our partners.”
Originally from Australia, the Speedo brand was founded in 1928 by Sydney-based MacRae Knitting Mills and became world-famous for the world’s first wool-free swimsuit, the Racerback. Since 1991, Speedo has been owned by the British Pentland Brands group.
