Decathlon revealed plans to shut down three of its stores in Sweden, citing challenges amid the global economic climate. The closures will affect Decathlon Kungens Kurva, Decathlon Barkarby and Decathlon Uppsala, impacting a total of 72 employees. Explaining the decision, a Decathlon spokesperson stated: “The Swedish market is specific and developed, not fully corresponding to the rest of Europe. Despite our efforts over the past 13 years to introduce Decathlon to Swedish consumers, further measures are needed to achieve sustainable growth.”

Decathlon assured that the operations at its Mall of Scandinavia store will continue uninterrupted. The company emphasized its commitment to facilitating a smooth transition for affected employees and customers. Regarding the fate of the stores, Decathlon clarified: “The Barkarby store, which we own, will be sold. The Kungens Kurva and Uppsala stores will be returned to their respective owners once the closures are finalized.”

In response to inquiries about future purchases and returns, Decathlon outlined its plans. “Products purchased online can be returned via mail, while in-store purchases can only be returned at Mall of Scandinavia,” the spokesperson added. Decathlon also announced a clearance sale at Decathlon Uppsala starting April 13, lasting approximately three weeks. Customers were advised to return items purchased during the sale to Mall of Scandinavia, with any price differences being addressed accordingly.

Regarding repair services, Decathlon informed customers that its workshop at the Mall of Scandinavia would remain operational, offering repairs for bicycles, tents, fitness machines and skates. For customers unable to access the remaining stores, Decathlon recommended visiting its other Stockholm-area location.
