More than 1,000 shoppers turned up at the opening.
JD Sports has inaugurated a 3,800-sqm. flagship store in Manchester’s Trafford Center, the retailer’s biggest store in the world. A crowd estimated at over 1,000 enthusiastic customers turned up for the opening on June 7, in the presence of sport superstar Usain Bolt and YouTube group Beta Squad. “Any plan to let people in gradually appeared to disintegrate under the sheer force of the crowd with people at the front pushed forward by those behind,” the Manchester Evening News reported.
The state-of-the-art store features a 28-sqm. store front and more than 270 digital screens. The store will showcase exclusive JD lines and dedicated spaces for major sports brands including Nike, Adidas, Puma and On.
While representing a new step in JD’s global retail strategy, the recent opening at Manchester’s Trafford Center also reinforces the retailer’s ties to Manchester. JD opened its very first store in Bury, in Greater Manchester, back in 1981.
