Sprinter has moved a Galician store to the Marineda City shopping centre in A Coruña, increasing its footprint to nearly 1,000 square meters and making it one of the retailer’s largest sites in Spain’s northeast, as the brand advances its expansion plan toward 240 stores nationwide.
According to Diffusion Sport, this is now one of the Spanish retailer’s largest in the country’s northeast. There are at present 11 Sprinter stores and a staff of more than 215 in the autonomous community of Galicia.
As we’ve reported, Sprinter is engaged in an ambitious retail expansion, with plans to open 15 stores by year’s end and another 20 in 2026. The goal is to reach a total of 240 stores in Spain within two years.
The most recent financial figures for the Sprinter – whose parent, Iberian Sports Retail Group (ISRG), was acquired by JD Sports in July 2023 – date to financial-year 2024, when it posted a year-on-year revenue increase of 13.2 percent, to €622 million. It also posted a loss of €13.4 million – attributable to its withdrawal from the Netherlands, in December 2023.
JD Sports has plans of its own to expand in Spain. Back in June it had a Spanish store count of 130, to which it was hoping to add 16, two of them in Madrid.
