The final results of the second-largest integrated French sporting goods retailer for 2008 will only come out next month. For the time being, Groupe Go Sport reports a drop of 3.6 percent in its total revenues to €726.6 million for the year, including a drop of 5.4 percent in the 4th quarter.
However, the company points out that the fourth quarter went better than the previous six months for its most important chain in France. Furthermore, its sales in Poland grew by 15.3 percent and the company signed four additional master franchising contracts in various parts of the world.
The generalist banner of the group, Go Sport, recorded a 6.8 percent decline in France for the year, with a drop of 7.0 percent on a same-store basis. However, the last two months were relatively satisfactory. Its sales had fallen by 10.9 percent in the 2nd quarter and by 8.9 percent in the 3rd one, but in the 4th quarter the decline softened to 4.1 percent.
Courir, the athletic footwear retail chain of the group, had relatively stable sales for the year, as they declined by only 0.2 percent. However, they fell by 5.5 percent in the latest quarter.
