Sales of climbing ropes previously sold under the Lanex brand continued to rise last year, indicating that its switch to the Tendon brand name has been well received. The Lanex brand was dropped for the outdoor range because it reminded consumers of wool products and detergents. The Czech company that sells the product continues to use the brand for industrial ropes, but retailers and consumers in the outdoor business were more inspired by the Tendon label. For the time being the brand name is accompanied by the words “manufactured by Lanex,” but this tag is meant to be dropped two years from now. Sales increased by about 4 percent last year, partly due to price hikes that accompanied an upgraded market position for Tendon.
