Selle Royal has announced it will open a new facility in Ogden, Utah, north of Salt Lake City, within Utah's bike industry cluster. The group, which is headquartered in Pozzoleone, near Vicenza, in Italy, owns the Brooks, Fizik and Crank Brothers brands. Selle Royal was founded in 1956 to make bicycle parts, focusing on bicycle saddles and footwear. With the acquisition of Crank Brothers in 2008 it expanded its product base to mountain bike parts like pedals, wheels, tools and pumps. The Selle Royal group employs around 1,000 people worldwide and distributes in more than 70 countries. The new facility in Utah is expected to generate 65 jobs over the next seven years. The state of Utah, and the Ogden area in particular, is growing as a hub for the outdoor industry. Other bike brands with facilities in Ogden include Volagi, Mavic, Enve, QBP, TRP, Mercury Wheels and Scott Sports. Selle Royal could regain up to 20 percent of the new Utah taxes it pays over the next seven years in the form of a post-performance Economic Development Tax Increment Finance (EDTIF) tax credit rebate. Each year as the group meets the criteria in its contract with the state of Utah it will earn a portion of the total tax credit rebate. Selle Royal Group also owns Selle Royal USA, a distribution company registered in Illinois for the distribution of products in North America, and Selle Royal China, an Asian facility which produces Selle Royal branded and private label bicycle saddles and accessories.
